The Ruston 8U Americans baseball club defeated Girard 1-0 on Sunday for the Louisiana Dixie Youth baseball state championship, thus clinching a spot in the world championship in Dothan, Alabama, beginning on July 28.

The Ruston High School Auditorium was swinging as the Russ Town Jazz Band featured its tribute to The Debonnairs last weekend. The auditorium was filled with big band enthusiasts, roughly half who actually attended a Debonnairs show or reunion dance over the past seven decades. For the last 30 years one man from Jackson Parish, Col. Ron A. Carson Jr., has been busy serving God, his family, the military, and his country as a United States Marine.
