Ruston Artisans held a special Stars and Stripes cupcake decorating class during the Fourth of July weekend for budding culinary artists ages 5-12. April McNeil of Be Humble: It’s Just Pie guided the participants in creating patriotic themed cupcakes that included the Firecracker Cupcake, Ice Cream Cupcake, Snow Cone Cupcake, and more.

It’s the Fourth of July weekend. Along with the patriotic symbolism of the holiday come very specific memories from growing up and how we celebrated our country’s birthday — cookouts, swimming, homemade ice cream, and the granddaddy of them all for me, watermelon.

Burtons celebrate 40th anniversary

Rickey and Philis Burton of Grambling are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary today. The Burtons were married on July 4, 1981. Originally from Ruston, the couple now resides in Grambling. They are the parents of Rickey Burton II of Ruston and Ryan Burton of Cypress, Texas, and the grandparents of Kameron Wright of Ruston. Submitted photo
